A Day of Sabbath for Women

A DAY OF SABBATH FOR WOMEN

Are you longing for connection and Sabbath rest in the midst of the chaos of a disconnected, busy world? Jesus promises rest to those who desire it and come to him to find it. Join us for City of Light’s first-ever day of connection, laughter, worship, good food, storytelling, rest, and prayer for women on Saturday, October 20

Deacon Margie Fawcett will bring a powerful word on the beauty of attachment to God and one another. We’ll gather City of Light’s sending church (Church of the Resurrection in Wheaton), next to the Lincoln Marsh

Like all City of Light gatherings, we desire this day to be intergenerational, and we always welcome teenage girls and moms with young babies!

Come as you are, bring a friend, and encounter the God who restores and redeems.

Deacon Margie Fawcett has been involved in healing ministry for over 20 years. Margie has been doing church ministry since 1996 and has tried just about everything that does not involve mathematics. She has worked with church-based ministries as well as para-church ministries and loves to see the Lord heal his people in areas of grief, anxiety, sexual brokenness and fragmented relationships. She has a Masters in Clinical Psych from Wheaton College and enjoys all kinds of ministry that involves getting to the heart of things, especially for women and families. Her own family includes two teenagers, Charlotte (15) and Josiah (13.) Please pray for her.

Bonnie McMaken is the worship pastor at City of Light. She loves guiding others into the presence and beauty of the Lord through music and prayer. You can find her original worship music here. She's also a writer and editor who has been published on ChristianityToday.com and in RELEVANT magazine. While she's not doing these things, she's probably wrangling her three active children, songwriting, cooking, watching reruns of Gilmore Girls, and slowly restoring her new 100 year-old Aurora home. Very Slowly.

Choose Your Own Adventure

Rest is not one-size-fits-all. As part of our Sabbath, we'll have the opportunity to respond by participating in a life-giving activity that fits each of our personalities and interests.

What is Sabbath? An ancient practice that, if we choose to press in, can bring us closer to the Lord. Sabbath is the opportunity to be still, cease our work, and to know God's goodness in creation and his goodness and our behalf. Find out more about God's invitation to us to enter his rest and re-creation here.

Prayerful Yoga with Jeannie Iseman

Join registered Yoga instructor and worship leader Jeannie Iseman as we use our bodies to encounter the Lord.

Jeannie Iseman began her yoga journey during a tough season of life and needed to slow down and breathe.  After a few sessions, she was hooked and has been a registered instructor for 6 years. She teaches yoga at Wheaton College and the Wheaton Sport Center, and loves to incorporate lectio divina into her personal practice.  Her favorite pose is Fallen Angel because it requires grace to fall out of a pose and courage to transition into something unexpected. She attends the Church of the Resurrection in Wheaton and serves as a worship leader.  When not teaching yoga, Jeannie works for a non-profit organization in West Chicago and lives with her husband, Nate, three children (Emmaus, Moriah, and Ignatius), and too many animals.

Artistic Prayer Exercise with Laura J. Wolfe

Join City of Light artist Laura J. Wolfe as we use our imaginations in prayer to reflect and meditate on God's goodness. No previous artistic experience or gifting necessary!

Laura is an artist, writer, and counselor. Both her art and writing are sacred spaces where she encounters God, faith, hope and the courage to journey on. She believes in the power of “showing up.”

Guided Prayer Walk in the Lincoln Marsh with Michelle Peterson

Join City of Light prayer minister Michelle Peterson for a guided prayer walk in the beautiful Lincoln Marsh

Michelle Peterson began her journey with City of Light in the spring of 2014 while attending Church of the Resurrection. When she first received an email from Pastor Bonnie asking if she'd be interested in learning more about the Aurora Church Plant Initiative, Michelle had no idea that that seed of a church plant would grow into the beautiful body of City of Light that has now so completely captured her heart. Michelle leads the Prayer and Communion Ministry teams at City of Light, and her biggest passion is entering into the healing presence of Jesus with others through prayer.
