It has been a great year journeying with Jesus in City Kids through the Worship with Jesus curriculum. This was our first time having 4 different worship rooms, allowing us to worship with even more age-specific practices and content for the 30 - 35 kids in City Kids each week. We are so grateful for new folks who joined the City Kids team to make that growth possible!
I am also so thankful for the amazing work of our City Kids Leader Team (Abigail Arnold, Mark Peterson, Brandon Anderson, Grace Kircher, Evelea Solgos) and the way they continue to lead and shepherd our City Kids Team.
Our City Kids Shepherds regularly share stories with me about how they are seeing kids of all ages encounter Jesus and how they as shepherds encounter Jesus with our kids. On Palm Sunday after the kids heard the story of Jesus’ death, one of our shepherds asked a wondering question, “I wonder how long Jesus’ friends were sad about his death?” One child said, “Seven thousand years.” Another said, “Seven-billion-thousand years.”
The City Kids Shepherd was moved that the kids were entering into the emotion of the story at their own level—even as they made up fake, big numbers. Then another child said, “I think they were only sad for three days.” In moments like this, the reality of Jesus’ cross and resurrection is shaping the imaginations of our kids toward the kingdom of heaven!
This summer, from June 3 - September 2, we will again be studying the Psalms in City Kids. We will have a new Psalms Journal with a Psalms selected for each week and we will be memorizing and singing the Psalms together.
Look for resources below for you as families to read, memorize, sing, and pray the Psalms together at home in your household worship as well!
For the summer, we will have three worship rooms based on grades from this past school year:
Worship Room 1: Infant - 3 Years Old
Worship Room 2: Pre-k - First Grade
Worship Room 3: 2nd - 5th Grade
On Sunday mornings, our City Kids Team is not able to accommodate kids wanting to switch back and forth between classes to be with friends or siblings. If you as a parent think that a different room may be a better longterm fit for your child, please let me know. I’d love to work on a plan with you for your child ahead of Sunday morning.
We love having our 6th - 12th graders serving in City Kids (as well as other Sunday morning teams)! This is a great way for our youth to learn to be a part of the church by joining in the family mission. If your youth wants to serve, please let me know.
We are also glad to have 5th grade kids serve in a younger City Kids worship room if one of their parents are serving there. This could be a great way to begin serving! We do ask that they only serve 1x a month so that they continue to worship regularly either with their own age or in the adult service.
Will you join the City Kids Team this summer? We have great shepherds in each room who lead the worship and teaching time, but are looking for more helpers to worship with, love, and guide the kids in each room. We would also love to have another backyard kids camp this summer. Please contact me or Brandon Anderson at brandon.curtis.anderson@gmail.com for more info.
